home (away from home)

This week is actually the only week all semester I'll be away from home and out of my normal routine, but since I'm typically in the habit of capturing small moments throughout my day, I had plenty of pictures on hand to use. It was a comfort to dig through these images and be reminded of home--I've driven close to a thousand miles by myself in the past five days, and I'm very much missing my typical schedule.

Hockneyizing these photos made it feel like I was looking at a stack of postcards from home. It made me think about the ways in which we distort things through memory and time, the way that my idea of my apartment probably isn't perfectly aligned with what my apartment actually is right now. I also found that the more I played with the number of Polaroids in the image, the more certain details jumped out at me or were lost. These are the final images that, to me, seemed to best capture my days and to provide the strongest impact. But in our discussions of punctum and stadium, I know that not everyone will see what I see.
My favorite windowsill, with some of the succulents I've planted and cared for since I moved in.
CrossFit PHL, which is practically an extension of my apartment in both its proximity and its importance to my typical day. In the bottom right are chalk tallies from completing rounds of a workout.
...studying, I'd imagine, isn't something I have to explain to any of you as a part of my schedule. Juniper likes to "help" (she will block the page until I highlight/notate with one hand and use the other to rub her belly).
Meal prepping (usually on Sundays) is an important part of my week. It saves me a lot of time, hassle, money, and unhealthy decisions. I've been vegetarian for four years and have learned to get creative.
My favorite place to be--on my rooftop at sunset (usually with a cold drink and my pup curled up beside me, or surrounded by friends).
